Ever wonder just how creased clothes get smoother when you move the iron back and across? If yes, then the B-IRON 725 – better described as the “Transparent Iron” – could be the revelation that you need. Designed by the Dongseok, Lee and Jihyung, Jung, the B-IRON 725 allows the user to watch the ironing process as the creased cloth surface is transformed. This has implications not only for the visual pleasure but also the efficiency with which you iron. You can immediately see just what is happening under the surface of the iron. B-IRON 725 has a surface made of tempered glass and has a nickel-chromium resistance wire that’s laid out in geometric pattern, enhancing the design. The handle rotates and allows the user a grip that he’s comfy with. The design has already been felicitated at the Reddot Design Award ’08 and seems on course for more accolades. Now if this does not make ironing a fun activity then nothing ever will.

Drawing inspiration from Japanese Soma-Toh or a revolving lantern, which displays a colored silhouette, designer Mac Funamizu has devised a transparent USB memory stick that illuminates to indicate the data saved, or space available for that matter, within. Synced with the icon on your desktop, the flashy pen drive distinguishes data with different colors, such as pink for images, blue for documents and green for movies. The memory stick, when translucent, indicates the availability of storage space within, while on the other hand, the glass flashing with light signifies unavailability of data space, so you could scan it to fill or remove data without going through its memory status on your system.

It is ironic that the task of reporting on this radically new-look computer has been handed over to me – someone who has had the same computer cabinet for more than 3 years now. But hey, perhaps I was waiting for just this! Designer Jeffrey S. Engelhardt has presented some very nice concepts of late and here’s yet another tasty treat from his vault. His HP LiM (Less is More) is a concept for a brilliant looking PC; brilliant in its design as well as the proposed material for fabricating its cabinet. HP LiM proposes a Bamboo shell to protect the system’s guts and simultaneously provide for better ventilation. As for the specs, HP LiM envisages a 19-inch OLED transparent touchscreen, which, by the way slides down for better handling. A wireless keyboard and a virtual trackpad are the paraphernalia thrown in with this freaky concept. Jump for some more pics. Now if only someone would make it, I’d so buy it.

Modern innovations in science and technology have increased the importance of gadgets for human beings more than ever before. Addressing our emotional attachment with gadgets, designer Zeynep Altmisoglu has come up with a remote control dubbed “Universal Remote Control” that not just controls gadgets but also keeps us aware of the health condition of our body. Featuring a transparent LCD display, the remote is capable of recognizing the user as a living machine and modifies its transparent display according to demands and emotions of the users.

The Universal Remote also includes a blood pressure measuring apparatus, which modifies the environment of the user by evaluating their emotions and transmitting the data to the remote. When closed, the remote becomes transparent to reappear after it’s opened again, courtesy the glass LCD technology. You may push the sensitive part to open and scroll in different directions to control the remote, while the gravitational sensitivity enables the rotation of the remote control to hold it in any position. The remote control is capable of adjusting its interface, when connected to a PC, to meet the needs of different users. Moreover, you can remove the blood pressure measuring apparatus from the remote, turn it back for emotion mode and compress from both sides for wearing it on your ear, as an earring, to evaluate and forward your emotions.

Keeping the mobile phone brand Nokia in mind, Colombian designer Juan Carlos Garzon has developed a cellphone concept that featuring a translucent display will give transparency to your chatter. The see-through mobile handset also touts a touchscreen interface for ease of use and a five megapixel camera to capture high resolution pictures. While the battery and the hardware, with on/off button, are neatly enclosed in the lower part of the cellphone. The transparent display also emits light, possibly LED, so you could use the cellphone at night with minimum fuss.

Presenting the next generation of Apple IPhone, designer Fabio Merzari has popped up a cellphone concept that can be used either opened or closed, letting the users change the dimensions of the mobile handset. Dubbed the “RFR IPhone Next,” the next-gen mobile phone integrates a transparent display formed by two OLED screens with lots of shape memory alloy, which when in closed configuration rolls neatly within the case. As soon as you touch the screen, the icon pops-up on the display to allow multi-layer effect, while multi-colored illumination that adjusts according to light conditions ensures easy access of info to the users. Featuring the body finished in aluminum, the RFR IPhone Next also touts a massive 128 GB memory and comes integrated with Ichat 5 Mpx camera.

Here is a concept design, one does not come across too often. Designer Mac Funamizu is out there with a revolutionary music player that connects the users with the outer world by playing perfect music at the perfect place at the perfect time. You can’t expect more than that from a music player. Called the Mobile Music, the unique music player can be worn on your wrist, like a watch or a bracelet. Though, the futuristic music player is transparent by default, but the users may also change the background colors, and even paste a picture onto it. The translucent screens are as elastic as the users may effortlessly bend and carry it in their pocket. The player also includes a pair of earphones for uninterrupted sound quality. Moreover, it can detect your heartbeat with the built-in censor. The incorporated sensors identify your voice and humming to play your favorite music on the go. And did I mention that the mobile music player also doubles up as a regular wristwatch?
